“The Breakout Sessions Begin”

What They Say:
The story is set in the game’s fictional southern Hinomoto city of Ohitoyoshi after it was successfully revitalized thanks to Hachiroku’s tourism promotion. The city is now planning to host the first Maitetsu Festival to bring together Railords and their respective masters from all of Hinomoto. Inspired by the humans planning for the festival, the famed Suzushiro and other Railords are also hosting a “Railord Summit” at the railroad station cafe Amairo to share their collective wisdom.

With the idea for merch as a way to rebuild the knowledge and awareness of the Railords in the last episode, they’re now going into breakout sessions to figure out what kind of merch they should have. Not that they’re coming up with ideas quickly or anything but we get to see some of their personalities through it, which are pretty simple and familiar. I do like that one of the sessions focuses on things local to their operating area, which includes some neat charms with the Otunaki as well as a particular kind of bug that could be marketed right. The second half doe a bit more exploration of festivals and shrines for ideas and we see some good stuff there as well in them exploring the area.

In Summary:
Rail Romanesque is going to be one of those shows where remembering names feels pointless, like an Idolmaster show for me. There are too many characters introduced too quickly and names aren’t going to make much difference with it anyway. It’s all about the light exploration of the moments and places and just dealing with that and some cute humor along the way. And on that level this really does work well and makes for a delightful little experience while teasing at something larger that could be a thing with the Railords themselves.
