The Wave!! anime adaptation trilogy is underway in Japan and we’ve had a really solid “wave” of announcements and promos for it since it was announced back in the fall of 2018. The project has run with several CDs so far and a radio program involving the cast that runs across all the various media and there was a shift in focus to the game while stating that the anime was still coming. With the project planned as a three-part film trilogy, we learned this summer that it’s getting a quick theatrical release with each piece released on October 2nd, 2020, October 16th, 2020, and October 30th, 2020.

With the second installment going live in theaters in Japan today, they’ve now put out a new promotional video below that provides a digest view of the first film in two minutes, which covers the basics and provides some new animation for overseas fans to check out.

Takaharu Ozaki is directing based on the screenplay by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu. Yomi Sarachi is working on the original character designs with Tomoko Iwasa adapting them for the animation whose production is being handled by Asahi Production.

The Japanese cast includes Tomoaki Maeno as Masaki Hinaoka, Jin Ogasawara as Shō Akitsuki, Yoshiki Nakajima as Nalu Tanaka, Takuya Satō as Kōsuke Iwana, Yusuke Shirai as Yūta Matsukaze, Shunichi Toki as Naoya Kido, Nobuhiko Okamoto as Rindō Fuke, and Showtaro Morikubo as Sōichirō William Mori.

Plot Concept: The show takes place in the city of Ōarai in Ibaraki prefecture, and centers on Masaki Hinaoka, who befriends transfer student Shō Akitsuki before the summer break, and ends up getting hooked on surfing. Through the sport, Masaki will get to know new friends, and will also drift apart from them in his journey to adulthood.
