There’s always a number of projects in development at streaming services and one that definitely caught my eye is The Cleaners. Based on a short story by Ken Liu, it’s being developed into a series by one of the writers for The OA, which definitely made me a huge fan. Dominic Orlando is working on the story with Orlando Bloom and his production company where it’s based on the story of The Princess and the Pea.

With Bloom’s production company working a first-look deal with Amazon, this would be the second project of theirs if it goes forward. Dominic Orlando also worked on Mindhunter and is currently writing for the upcoming Amazon series Outer Range.

Ken Liu, for his part, was the translator on The Three Body Problem novel which Netflix picked up. Another of his stories, The Message, is being developed as a film.

Plot Concept: The Cleaners tells how, in the near future, inanimate objects carry the memories of people’s experiences, and a certain number of the population have the ability to relive those memories by touch. Cleaners are specialists hired to sanitize the objects and relieve emotional burdens these memories may hold. At the center of this story is a young man who inherits his family’s cleaning business, and takes on a mysterious new commission.
