The folks at GKIDS haven’t done much with From Up on Poppy Hill when it comes to home video releases since it came out back in 2014 or so in that form. We learned last week that the distributor had some plans in motion for separate DVD and Blu-ray re-releases according to listings on the Target site. That’s now been formalized and it looks like it’s just a basic re-release. The DVD/BD combo is priced at $29.95 while the DVD-only release is priced at $19.95, both of which arrive on December 15th, 2020.

The DVD release includes: Behind The Microphone, Interview With Goro Miyazaki, Yokohama Featurette, Music Video, Original Theatrical Trailers

The DVD/BD release includes: Exclusive Booklet, Feature-Length Storyboards, Behind The Microphone, Interview With Goro Miyazaki, 10 Years With Hayao Miyazaki Documentary Episode, Speech And Press Conference From Hayao Miyazaki, Yokohama Featurette, Music Video, Original Theatrical Trailers

Plot Concept: Set in Yokohama in 1963, the story centers on an innocent romance beginning to bud between Umi and Shun, two high school kids caught up in the changing times. Japan is picking itself up from the devastation of World War II and preparing to host the 1964 Olympics — and the mood is one of both optimism and conflict as the young generation struggles to throw off the shackles of a troubled past. As Umi and Shun’s tentative relationship begins to blossom, a buried secret from their past emerges to cast a shadow on the future and pull them apart.
