So. Much. TV.

It’s been a bit of a slog in some ways when it comes to the summer season but we’ve been using it to catch up on some shows and to binge a few new things that have come out. With my kids split and all of us having some shows we watch together, we’re definitely behind in some “big” shows but that’s just the nature of the beast. It’s also allowed me to work through a few other things as we slowly change the meaning of “TV” to begin including movies we’re watching because we’re simply not going to the theater anytime soon where I am.

On the TV series side of things, I’m continuing to pop on one episode of A.P. Bio each night to get ready for the uncanceled third season coming to Peacock in September. I’ve paired that nightly ritual with starting Cougartown recently as I never saw it before but adore the cast from other projects. I’m glad I missed it because this light-binge is definitely making for a good way to finish out the day.

This past week was a bit of a catch-up week for me as my youngest came back for a week with how we’re handling COVID-19 between households. I’ve only had her a couple of weeks since March because of high-risk stuff so it was a chance to dig into at least one show and we binged it across the week. That show being Doom Patrol season 2. I really enjoyed the first season and the second doesn’t try to replicate it but grow past it a bit. It’s unfortunate that it ended on a cliffhanger since the pandemic kept them from filming the final episode, but I like the stakes it sets up and it basically guarantees a third season in my mind. The actress for Dorothy nailed the character perfectly throughout the season and the growth of the cast overall has been great, especially when dealing with some of the stranger things that came into their lives.

I did wrap up the Five Bedrooms series this week with its first season and that show really was a fun little dramedy out of Australia that clicked nicely for me as low stakes and entertaining. A second season is in the works already down under so hopefully, we’ll see that early next year.

The arrival of Lucifer with its fifth season on Friday got me excited as I adore the show. I was fearful that the trailer gave away too much about what’s up with the title character and its twist, but it’s all resolved – sort of – in the first two episodes that it helps to mitigate that problem and leaves me excited for what comes next in this weird little show.

I didn’t expand into much new this week or any movies but I did load up the first episode of The Witcher. I’ve never played the games or read the books so it was fresh for me and gives me a taste of some old school feeling fantasy material. I like the cast so far and the general premise, but it’s just a single episode.

What are you watching?
