This one will definitely make you grin at the least if not smile outright at the shenanigans they get involved with.

“Time to Hunt Rhinoceros Beetles! BNW”

What They Say:
The horse girls are back to charm you in this special, bite-size anime. Umayon comes alive as a cute and eye-catching anime! At a school-turned-training facility, the girls will race, perform, and train… but that’s not all! Saddle up for a short-form anime that displays the laidback school days of the horse girls! Aaaaand, they’re off!

The girls hit up the beach this time around and there’s plenty of fun just watching them stretch and converse before anything actually gets underway. The deal with this one is that they’re intent on hunting up a Rhinoceros Beetle in the morning as part of this trip and that has a small group haring out the next morning. It’s cute to watch them search for them, find them, and collect them without being all wigged out by bugs and all that. The three they capture are fun enough but they also go to try and acquire a lot more, which requires a super kick to the tree that almost damages it. It turns into a lot of chaos from there as it unfolds but it’s silly enough in the right ways that you can enjoy them making a mad dash to get away from the bees.

In Summary:
Though the series is still very much simple light shorts with no greater context for me, it hits the right notes and delights. It’s well-animated with great colors and actual animation, not just clumsy movement pieces like we’ve had before with other works. They carry the mainline designs from the mothership show well and it doesn’t scrimp at all, which is a big plus. This one will definitely make you grin at the least if not smile outright at the shenanigans they get involved with.
