“Let’s Rent Something” and “Mikan are So Yummy”

What They Say:
After a night of drinking, Kaede wakes up realizing that in her drunken daze she had brought an unexpected guest home—a dinosaur! Kaede just goes with the flow and accepts her new living situation. Now she navigates her daily life while eating, watching TV, and shopping with her prehistoric roommate. Together, the duo enjoys each other’s company as they take on whatever the day brings.

It’s movie night! Kaede and Dino go to the video store to rent a couple of movies to watch tonight. There are so many choices! Where does Dino even start? Dino spots the “Partners” complete collection. As you should already know, Dino’s a big fan of the series. That was the show that everyone binged in one day a few episodes back. Kaede tells Dino to pick a movie, not a whole series! By the way, she’s got her eyes on the movie “Jurassic Parkour.” That sounds like an interesting choice. While trying to find a movie, Dino stumbles into the adult section! Oh no! Dino is a pure dinosaur. Don’t become corrupted! Dino eyes are fixed on the new releases such as “The Gyaru in the Classroom with My Thick Pipe: An I-Done-It” and “Hot Bikini Summer.” Welp, there goes Dino’s innocence.

Thankfully, Kaede smacks some sense back into Dino. Dino has avoided the path to debauchery, for now. Hilariously, she spots her ex-boyfriend Shouta in the adult section looking at a movie entitled “Gyaru Gone Wild.” It’s not what it looks like! Who’s he kidding? It’s exactly what it looks like. Hey, he’s a healthy young man. He’s got certain urges. Kaede is totally cool with this. It’s not like he’s her boyfriend or anything. I’m not going to lie, this entire scene made me die of laughter. Kaede and Dino pick out their movies and go home. Kaede ends up picking “Jurassic Parkour” while Dino picks a scary movie. Dino is terrified during “Jurassic Parkour” and Kaede is terrified during Dino’s scary movie, haha. By the way, there was no actual parkour in “Jurassic Parkour.” Needless to say, I was very disappointed. I wanted to see dinosaurs doing parkour.

In the first Dino Channel segment, Dino is craving a late-night snack. Kaede is sleeping so Dino has to be very quiet. Unfortunately, Dino can’t help but make a ton of noise! It’s fine though, Kaede is wearing earmuffs. She can’t hear a thing. Safe!

Shouta stops by Kaede’s place with a bag of mikan. He sure does stop by a lot for an ex-boyfriend, huh? Reluctantly, she lets him in because Dino is really excited to eat some mikan. While they eat mikan under the kotatsu, Kaede wonders why his mom keeps gifting her stuff. Shouta remarks that she really likes her. Maybe, just maybe, his mom doesn’t know they broke up? Shouta loses his cool. Bingo! Kaede can’t even believe this guy. Now she feels bad about all the gifts. Shouta tells her not to worry about it and then expertly changes the subject. He shows a Dino a fun little trick. He can make a mikan float in the air! So can Kaede! Dino’s mind is blown! How did they do that!? Shouta teaches Dino how to do the trick. Dino is super excited to show it off to someone! Dino runs downstairs and shows the landlady the trick. She can’t believe it! Yes, she can’t believe that Dino eats mikan. Amazing! Poor Dino.

In the second Dino channel segment, Dino and Shouta are eating mikan. Shouta decides to play a prank on Dino and attaches a string to one of the mikan. When Dino turns around, there’s a mikan floating in the air! How is this possible!? Dino is freaked out!

In the live-action portion of the episode, Kaede and Dino are both bored. They decide to play some games to pass the time. First up, a buzz wire challenge! Kaede does a really good job but ultimately fails halfway through. It’s Dino’s turn now. Kaede remarks that it’ll be hard for Dino with those big hands of his! She’s right about that. Dino isn’t worried though. Dino has a secret technique! Dino shrinks and turns into a small plushie form. Okay!?!? Since when has Dino been able to do that!? Anywho, Dino easily manages to complete the buzz wire game. That didn’t seem fair at all! Dino leaves on a miniature tank, haha. The next game they play is the Dino Quiz. Dino asks questions and Kaede has to guess the answers. Unfortunately, Kaede’s answers are all wrong. Granted, the last question wasn’t really a question. She had to make a joke out of the “Gal & Dino” title. She came up with “Bird & Dino.” Dino was not amused. That’s why Dino transformed into plushie form and floated away using balloons, haha.

Kaede and Dino continue playing more games. They practice origami. They do a couple of coin tricks. Eventually, they get into an intense game of piggy badminton. What’s piggy badminton? It’s badminton…except you use toy piggies that squeak instead of rackets. Instead of a shuttlecock, you use a ball of cotton. You use the air from the piggy when it squeaks to shoot the ball of cotton over the net. I know this sounds absurd but it actually seems like a lot of fun! Kaede absolutely destroys Dino in piggy badminton. Dino can’t even score a single point! Dino gets angry and storms off on the miniature tank again. Eventually, Dino cools down and they make up. They sure did have a lot of fun today!

In Summary:
This may very well be my favorite episode of Gal & Dino this season. I’m still laughing at the scene where Shouta got caught renting a dirty movie about gyaru going wild, haha. He definitely hasn’t gotten over Kaede but I think we all knew that already. I also really enjoyed the live-action part of the episode. Kaede and Dino playing random games was very entertaining to watch. I am a big fan of piggy badminton. I think I’ll try it out someday! Of course, I can’t forget to mention Dino’s ability to shrink into a plushie! Dino sure is a mystery, huh? Dino can shrink. Dino can teleport. Dino can time travel, I think? I’m not too sure about that one. Regardless, Dino always finds a way to blow our minds. How will Dino surprise us next!?
