Media Blasters announced back in February, which feels like another lifetime ago, an older license of theirs that they’re going to be bringing out on Blu-ray in 2020 with Eiken. The two-episode OVA series is undated at the moment but a bilingual Blu-ray release will be coming later this year from the distributor. While we await this glorious release of high comedy, the hourlong OVA project has now been brought out as part of the Fever Dreams VOD on Vimeo which can be watched for free. And it really does need to be seen, quite honestly. So head on over to check it out in its dubbed form (which only makes it better)!
The 2003 OVA series was directed by Kiyotaka Ohata based on the scripts by Tomoyasu Okubo. Based on the original manga by Seiji Matsuyama, the character designs were handled by Masashi Ishihma while JC STaff handled the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Akeno Watanabe as Densuke Mifune, Miwa Oshiro as Chiharu Shinonome, Emi Yabusaki as Yuriko Shinonome, Mai Kadowaki as Kyoko Morooka, Marina Ono as Komoe Harumachi, Masumi Asano as Kirika Misono, and Touko Itou as Lin Grace.
The previous produced English language dub was directed by Ruben Arvizu for Arvintel Media Productions. The cast includes Becky Chiang as Chiharu Shinonome, Bryce Papenbrook as Densuke Mifune, Cindy Robinson as Kirika Misono, Mona Marshall as Lin Grace, Rebecca Forstadt as Komoe Harumachi and Kyoko Morooka.
Plot Concept: Densuke just enrolled at the exclusive Zashono academy. Eager to participate in extracurricular activities, he never expected to join the mysterious Eiken Club. Oddly enough, all the other members seem to be busty hot co-eds and most of the clubs activities involve them wearing bikinis! Despite the visual distractions, Densuke isn’t interested in anyone but the shy and beautiful Chiharu.
