We learned way, way, back at an event back in December 2018 focused on Colopl games, that the Shironeko Project game will have a TV anime adaptation in 2020. The event revealed that the anime will cover the”Zero Chronicle: Hajimari no Tsumi” storyline from the game which last fall revealed was set for an April 2020 debut. Set for an April 6th, 2020 debut, Funimation has announced their pickup of the series for their spring streaming season. There was no detail as to whether it’ll be a simulcast or a simuldub.

The series is directed by Masato Jinbo and he’s working on the scripts as well. Yousuke Okuda is handling the character designs and Project No.9 is handling the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes Yuuki Kaji as Yami no Ojui and Yui Horie as Hikari no O Airisu along with Shōgo Batori as Faios, Chise Nakamura as Sima, Takuya Iwabata as Teo, Kensuke Matsui as Alantia, Katsuyuki Miura as Valas, Una Nagisa as Groza, Atsuyoshi Miyazaki as Skears, Kengo Takanashi as Adelle, Susumu Akagi as Yami no Ō, and Shōzō Iizuka as Bal.

The game itself debuted in 2014 and had an English launch as Rune Story in 2015 before wrapping up in 2016 with no further updates.

Plot Concept: The series follows a young adventurer who hails from the Astora Isle, who joins up with a man named Kyle, and the two set out together. After meeting a curious talking white cat and a mysterious young girl, the whole crew uncovers an island in the sky–where Kyle falls into darkness.

The series has the rest of the adventuring party sailing the skies on the island to find the Great Runes, and to heed the words of their fallen friend.
