To import or hope for a good US release?

With a couple of anime TV series from a couple of decades ago, the Dragon Quest property moved into the modern age with Dragon Quest: Your Story last year. The film has made its overseas appearances after its Japanese theatrical run and now Warner Bros. Japan has set a March 4th, 2020 release date for the home video side there. It’ll come in regular editions on DVD and Blu-ray priced at 3,800 yen and 4,800 yen respectively. There’s also a steelbook limited edition coming on Blu-ray only for 13,500 yen and you can see the package below.

The limited-edition comes with a cast interview, stage greetings, press conference material, and a group cast interview. Pack-in bonuses include a gold coin, a postcard, and more. The regular editions come with just the teasers/trailers that are also with the limited release.

The 3DCG anime feature film is being produced based on an original story by Yuji Horii, the franchise creator, with Takashi Yamazaki serving as the chief director and screenplay writer. Ryuichi Yagi and Makoto Hanafusa are the hands-on directors.

The film is scheduled for an August 2nd, 2019 debut and is based on the Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride game.

The Japanese cast includes Kasumi Arimura as Bianca, Takeru Satoh as Ryuka, Haru as Flora, Kentaro Sakaguchi as Prince Henry, Takayuki Yamada as Papas, Kendo Kobayashi, Ken Yasuda, Arata Furuta, Suzuki Matsuo, Kōichi Yamadera, Arata Iura, Chikako Kaku, and Kōtarō Yoshida.

Property Concept: What begins as an innocent childhood voyage of a boy accompanying his father on a journey soon develops into an eye-opening adventure of a brave young man traveling the world as he faces life-altering decisions that transcend generations.
