With a number of adaptations and interpretations over the years, the BBC brought out a three-part miniseries adaptation of War of the Worlds last fall. It’s been quiet since then as to how it would find its way overseas but it looks like AMC has picked it up initially for their AMC Premiere service. Presumably, it’ll get an “Event” showing later in 2020 at some point in time for a regular broadcast run.
The production was filmed in Liverpool and was directed by Craig Viveiros while being adapted by Wallender scribe Peter Harness. With almost all of the adaptations that I can remember being set in America, I’m definitely looking forward to this one – especially after just reading the authorized sequel novel, The Massacre of Mankind.
The cast includes Rafe Spall and Eleanor Tomlinson.
Plot Concept: The series is the first adaptation set in Edwardian England, rather than America, and follows George, played by Spall, and his partner Amy, played by Tomlinson as they attempt to defy society and start a life together against the escalating terror of an alien invasion. Graves plays George’s older brother Frederick, while Carlyle stars as Ogilvy, an astronomer and scientist.
