Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa & Greg Berlanti’s ‘The Brides’ Plays In ‘Dracula’ Territory

The Brides is being described as a sexy contemporary reimagining of Dracula.

I don’t watch every show that comes out under Berlanti Productions but I watch a lot of them. The same is mostly said when it comes to projects from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa as he’s done some really fun things that tickle a fancy of mine. When the two work together, as they have on Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, I pay attention.

ABC has given a pilot order to the pair for The Brides, which is set to be a drama/thriller based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula. This has been kicking around as far back as 2016 when it was developed for NBC.

No details are in for cast at the moment but Maggie Kiley is on board to direct the pilot and EP. It’ll be a co-production between ABC and Warner Bros. Television where the pair have their overall deal.

Plot Concept: The drama revolves around a trio of powerful female leads and features strong horror elements. ABC sees the series as a “vampire soap” about empowered, immortal women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy — and their non-traditional family.
