Running under the Vertigo imprint back in 2002 before finishing up in 2008, the series Y: The Last Man has been set up at FX since 2015 in trying to bring it to reality. The sixty-issue series from Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra has gone through a couple of attempts but the most recent attempt looks to have succeeded as FX has ordered it to series. The show will debut in 2020 with Diane Lane as the lead for the ensemble.
“Y: The Last Man is a towering achievement among graphic novel storytelling and it’s been rewarding to work with this outstanding team,” said Nick Grad, one of the Presidents of Original Programming at FX. “Michael Green and Aïda Mashaka Croal have partnered with Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson to deliver a stunning new expression of this fascinating and timely story. Melina Matsoukas, who directed the pilot, did an incredible job bringing it to life with Diane Lane and this stellar cast.”

- Lashana Lynch as Agent 355 (Captain Marvel, Bulletproof),
- Juliana Canfield as Beth (Succession)
- Marin Ireland Nora (Sneaky Pete, Hell or High Water)
Michael Green and Aida Mashaka Croal serve as the showrunners on it.
The description of the series from FX reads with, “Y traverses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event has decimated every male mammal save for one lone human. The new world order of women will explore gender, race, class and survival.”
Plot concept: This is the saga of Yorick Brown—the only human survivor of a planet-wide plague that instantly kills every mammal possessing a Y chromosome. Accompanied by a mysterious government agent, a brilliant young geneticist and his pet monkey, Ampersand, Yorick travels the world in search of his lost love and the answer to why he’s the last man on earth.
