What They Say
Even without his tall muscular body and long beautiful hair, Prince Naru has managed to get close to the girl of his dreams, Nami. Sure, she might think he’s a pervert (he does keep showing up naked, after all), and Arashi is constantly stealing his spotlight, but nevertheless, life as a human isn’t all that bad…That is until Loa-who’s just as hot as the merman version of Naru-makes his entrance at school! Everyone’s swooning over the new boy, but it seems he has his sights set on Nami too?!

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
With Moana’s arrival and her ardent expression of love for Naru, ends up in giving everyone a headache. Moana, with no place to go, ends up staying with Arashi, who she notices likes Nami. So, she suggests they team up, so they both can get who they want. Arashi declines but tells her if she really wants Naru’s attention she should ignore him for a while. She does that, but after a little bit she can no longer take it and really talks about her feelings with Naru. And the whole thing with Moana and Naru actually is making Nami a bit jealous.

It’s summer break and everyone is going on a trip together. First stop shopping and then an aquarium. Naru can hardly handle the thought of all his fish friends cooped up in such a small space. Just when they were about to be splashed at the dolphin show, someone shows up and protects them from water. They follow the girl, Riko, and find out she’s a mermaid too. And she became human to follow a man that works at the aquarium. Naru and Ryou try to help Riko out since she only has a month left, but it turns out her love probably won’t work out. However, with a push from Naru and courage from Riko. She ends up getting her happy ending.

In Summary:
The packaging the Yen Press consistently is the best with color inserts, mini character profiles and a small game that leads you to your fated mermaid. There is also a bonus comic, translation notes and even some art on the inside covers. All these little extras make an impact on not only the presentation of the manga, but also showcases the story well.

The story is pretty typical of any slice of life high school story at its core. It has all the typical tropes usually seen in shojo with the added element of merpeople. It’s a fun read, but it’s not truly exciting or thrilling. The art is enjoyable as well. I’m not usually a critic of translations, because I’m not in any way shape an expert at translations, but it was curious to see the young Nami say, “I hate pool.” I think it was trying to add the childish way she was speaking, but in all the things she said as a young girl, that was the only thing that sounded odd. It would have been nice to have a translation note on that.
