The Weekly Movies Discussion Post For October 14th, 2018

I’ll admit, my movie frustration level has been amping up for several weeks now. With a lack of really engaging movies hitting the theater locally during August it was easy enough to kind of slough off my frustrations with MoviePass, which had served me well since I got into it back in 2011. Through the highs and lows, and it going to $45 a month and still being a value for a high-volume movie consumer like me, the purchase of the company last year by others and the shift to the clearly unsustainable $9.95 level just lead to the collapse in late July. Honestly, I don’t mind the three movie limitation that they imposed but they’ve made it impossible for a lot of members to actually use because the showtime availability drops quickly and they only allow certain movies on certain days. For someone like me who had it at a high price but with flawless service, this was just nuts.

So, I was glad when Sinemia launched their new program where it’s $30 a month for a film a day, 2D limited which is all I see anyway. I just signed up for that a day or two ago and am off to see Smallfoot with it for the first showing with some kids. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get back into my theatrical viewing side as there’s a lot I want to see – including Bad Times at the El Royale among others.

If you’re interested in Sinemia, use my referral link as it’ll drop as much as $10 into your account and mine.

Movie viewing this week was pretty weak with so many shows on the TV side in the mix but I did manage a few pickups. One I’ve been waiting for it to get cheap forever was The Love Witch, was a recently made film done in the 60’s style with all of its kitsch and just looks intriguing as hell.

That was priced at a low $4.99 finally and I grabbed that along with the new incarnation of Beast at the same price.

And while it’s anime, I also grabbed the bilingual Miss Hokusai anime film at that price as well.

NYCC didn’t have a lot in the way of new trailers for the film side of things but the Mortal Engines one definitely got me pumped even more for it and the amount of hope I have for the Aquaman movie is probably higher than it should be. But for me this might be the one that gets it as right as it can of all the DC films so far.
