The 2018 theatrical release of Liz and the Blue Bird has come and gone in Japan and while they’re prepping for the home video release we’re getting closer to the North American theatrical debut. Eleven Arts is handling the distribution for this and has set a November 9th, 2018 debut for the Kyoto Animation work. With that coming up in a few months, they now have a new subtitled trailer that will be making it into the market to build interest in it over the next two months.

The film, the first of two, is directed by Naoko Yamada with a screenplay by Reiko Yoshida. Futoshi Nishiya handled the character designs for it.

The Japanese cast includes Atsumi Tanezaki as Mizore Yoroizuka, Nao Tōyama as Nozomi Kasaki, Ayaka Asai as Hazuki Katō, Chika Anzai as Reina Kōsaka, Houko Kuwashima as Satomi Niiyama, Konomi Fujimura as Natsuki Nakagawa, Miyu Honda as Liz, Moe Toyota as Sapphire “Midori” Kawashima, Shiori Sugiura as Ririka Kenzaki, Takahiro Sakurai as Noboru Taki, Tomoyo Kurosawa as Kumiko Ōmae, Yūichi Nakamura as Masahiro Hashimoto, and Yuri Yamaoka as Yūko Yoshikawa.

Plot Concept:  The film focuses on flutist Nozomi Kasaki and oboist Mizore Yoroizuka, the characters that were also the focus of the Sound! Euphonium 2 anime’s first half. Both Nozomi and Mizore are in their final year of high school, and Nozomi has rejoined the band. The band’s new competition piece, “Liz and the Blue Bird,” has a flute and oboe duet, which requires both Nozomi and Mizore to be coordinated. But while both have been together since middle school, Mizore is uneasy at the thought of being separated from Nozomi once more at the end of the year, which begins to affect not just their music, but their relationship.
