Similar to the movie discussion post we kicked off earlier today, we know that a lot of folks simply aren’t forum types and prefer commenting through social media, which our commenting system deals with in spades. So we’re going to try and kick around some weekly anime discussion material like this here.
While this coming week sees the My Hero Academia feature film coming up in Japan, we’ve got a bit more until it hits domestically. We did just have Princess Mononoke in theaters and next Saturday is the first of two showings for the Sailor Moon Super S film that will really delight fans.
The summer season is fully underway and with Attack on Titan being one of the last shows to go life we’re pretty much at capacity. For myself, I’m still sticking to shorts outside of One Piece simply because it seems like almost everything gets licensed and released eventually and I’ll see it in marathon form.
What has been interesting is that my youngest daughter in high school has been binging anime like a bat out of hell the last few months. She and I took in the Ghost in the Shell live-action movie this past week, a first for her, and she really enjoyed it. So much so that she’s got me searching for the DVDs I’ve got in the basement to watch. It’s time to go back to this franchise once again for me!
For those that are up for the night and looking for something to sink your teeth into, we definitely recommend this video from Film School Rejects that looks at lighting in anime with a focus on Akira and how it was done in traditional hand-animated works.
What shows are you looking forward to this week in streaming? Picking up any DVD or Blu-ray releases? What’s kicking around in your head in the realm of anime in general? Sound off below!
