Ai wakes up from her dream with the immediate knowledge that Peter seems to have given up. She can’t abide leaving the situation as it stood, with a young Mato-sensei separated from her dream crush. Was it just that sense of injustice driving her? No, Ai was crushing on Peter as well.

So back to sleep she goes, with Teko acting as a hypnotist to send them back to dream. Yes, them, as Pikari and Teko end up joining her for the first moments of her journey to dreamland. There, Ai is able to reconnect and make a desperate plea to Peter to not give up on life. Without knowing how the past went or what the future would hold, the dream comes to an end and starts to fade from Ai’s memory. At least until Mato-sensei walks by and jogs it. From there it’s a race to the shrine to discover Peter’s fate.

I should have realized earlier how Towano-sensei fit into all of this. I should also have realized that Amanchu wasn’t going to end this story on such a sad note. The time aspect threw me. You’d be correct in thinking that none of this time travel dream nonsense really makes sense, but in dreams, anything can happen. (No, don’t ask me how the cat is still there. It’s magic, it’s a cartoon, don’t think about it too hard.) It didn’t stop the ending from being ridiculously cute. I am full of dwahhhh.

Well, mostly dwah. If Towano was a teacher in the states he’d probably be getting fired right about now for making an inappropriate comment towards a student, no matter how innocent it was. Oh, Japan.

I’m guessing that next week we return to our regular, less magical version of Amanchu. Is the year coming to a close already? Well, I guess it’s a bit too cold to expect much diving in the middle of the winter.

In Summary:
Ai recruits her underclassmen to return to the dream to try to put things put right. However, her own crush on Peter might prove to be a liability for the rest of her school career.  It’s okay Ai, you’re young, you’ll find another dream boy. The Peter arc as a cute diversion into whimsy and romance, and I am unreasonably happy for Mato-sensei. Still, it will be nice to finally resume diving activities.
