“Café! Kaiju Girls!?”

What They Say:
Humanity’s battle of many years with the kaiju, giant monsters, has finally come to an end. Now that Earth has entered an age of peace, girls with the souls of kaiju have begun to appear, giving them the ability to transform into kaiju. They are known as the Kaiju Girls, and this is the powerful, transient, beautiful, and at times easygoing story of the strange fate these girls bear.

Kaiju Girls has clicked better for me so far this season than I expected but I can’t help but to feel that won’t last. With Guts now a part of things and fitting in pretty easily, such as how her name isn’t very feminine, we get time with her at the cafe with Agira. Agira is trying to get a bit of information out of her about Shadow Mist since they have things to face but Guts is doing her usual “I can handle it!” routine so that others don’t get involved. It’s amusing wit the way these two are so very different in personality but manage to click well enough and enjoy some time together. AT least until the Shadows arrive and we get a decent bit of action.

In Summary:
The back half of the episode delivers what fans like with the transformation sequences that shift us back into chibi mode quickly enough and leaves me wishing we had a non-chibi run for a while too. The action is cute and silly and it works nicely after having the pair spending quality time together to show they can connect in this form as well. Not a big episode but one that delivers both character material and action well enough.
