NBC Acquires ‘The Last Policeman’ For Development

the-last-policeman-coverWith nine novels under his belt, Ben H. Winters now has a third one in development with The Last Policeman. NBC has worked a put pilot commitment with Sony TV which is producing it with Neal Moritz and his Original Films banner that he operates there. Winters is involved with it as an executive producer with Moritz and Pavun Shetty. The book came out in 2012 and looks like it might be an ideal fit as Deadline notes that it works something that the networks like, a procedural, but places it in the context of a “big idea” to stand out in the crowd.

The book launched a trilogy and the opening installment won the 2012 Edgar Award the Philip K. Dick Award for Distinguished Science Fiction.

His novel Underground Airlines was acquired by Legendary, is also in the works while The Innocent Man spec script is on track at Universal TV.

Plot Concept: The story follows a detective in New Hampshire during the final years of civilization as a catastrophe-level asteroid hurtles toward the planet. Despite the social, political and economic effects of preparing for impact, he keeps his head down and hope alive by solving cases amidst the ever-increasing chaos.
