Onigiri Episode 7Time to get drinking!

What They Say:
Journey to the otherworldly land of mystical Japan, where oni aren’t the only legendary creatures that actually exist. To save their world, these mythical beings will work together to fight the Kamikui and their evil influence before the dark beings’ miasma covers the land. With eight extremely unique and determined party members, the quest to dispel a great evil will certainly never be boring!

After some fun convenience store activities the last time around, Onigiri naturally shifts gears here as our leads continue their journey and spend some time drinking. The food stands are always fun to watch and these characters getting a little buzzed is certainly amusing. A lot of this is just some silly back and forth between the women and lots of affectionate elements that belie their personalities at the same time. Others are just sad drunks and there’s definitely comedy to be had in that, especially as the show is quite well animated and designed here. The show has worked its detail well from the start and episodes like this just reinforces is.

In Summary:
Episodes like this are one that definitely have their fun but they’re not exactly going to set the world on fire. That said, Onigiri is not a series that has been truly plot heavy and taking some time for these characters to just sit back and drink works better than it might otherwise. You can easily watch without knowing who is who and just enjoy the bits that play out because it could be any character grouping from any other show. I love the look of the show and quality of the animation and wish there was more story to it, but it works for its intent and doesn’t try to be more than that.
