‘Jurassic World’ Sequel Director Announced

2 min read

Jurassic WorldUniversal Pictures had a very good year last year at the box office and one of those reasons was the release of Jurassic World last summer. The film was directed by Colin Trevorrow and was made for $150 million and resulted in a $1.67 billion worldwide take on it. Trevorrow made it clear he wasn’t coming back for a sequel, though he retains an executive producer credit alongside Steven Spielberg and a few others, and now Universal has revealed that Juan Antonio García Bayona will be taking on the reins for the film.

Bayona is certainly an interesting choice and one that I can get behind easily. He did some great work with his 2007 feature film debut The Orphanage and shifted gears easily with the 2012 release of The Impossible, which netted him several awards. He also directed two very great episodes of Penny Dreadful. He’s currently finishing up work on the October 2016 slated release of A Monster Calls, which is being released by Focus Pictures and stars Sigourney Weaver, Felicity Jones, Toby Kebbell, Lewis MacDougall, and Liam Neeson.

Set for a June 22nd, 2018 release, the film will star Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard with Juan Antonio García Bayona directing.
