After a mostly light week last week, the numbers in from Oricon with what’s selling in the manga and light novels realm is pretty different – as expected – this time around. One Piece moved past its preview stage and sold 1.7 million copies in its first week, reaffirming its overall dominance in the market. There’s a natural gap between that and the second place spot with Attack on Titan debuting its 19th volume with 719,000 units sold. We also get strong numbers for Assassination Classroom and My Hero Academia while Natsume’s Book of Friends reminds us why it’s getting another season of anime produced. The chart also shows some really strong second week numbers for Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii and we get some fun sub-100,000 unit books arriving in the top ten list.
On the light novel front, it’s no surprise that the 17th volume of Sword Art Online lands big with 75,000 units moved, providing some distance with the second place spot of the 15th volume of A Certain Magical Index arriving at 30,000 units. There’s some good new books making their way into the chart this week, including the first My Hero Academia novelization.
