While it’s been about three years by the time this hits since One Piece Film Z arrived, the 2016 debut of One Piece Film Gold will be pretty well anticipated by fans. As the series continues to move on steadily, a few specials arrive here and there, and the manga continues to delight fans, a new film installment is exactly what’s needed to juice things up a bit. Scheduled for a July 23rd, 2016 theatrical release in Japan, the new visual has arrived for it and you realize that there’s been very little “gold” in the series itself, which feels weird considering they’re pirates and treasure hunters.
With preorder tickets set to go on sale in just about ten, it was recently revealed that Hiroaki Miyamoto will be directing it based on the screenplay by Tsutomu Kuroiwa. Miyamoto previously directed a good chunk of the TV series while Kuroiwa worked on The Perfect Insider this season as well as the live action Black Butler film.
Will this be a film that FUNimation can work similar to Dragon Ball Z by getting it into enough theaters and galvanizing fans to check it out, providing they acquire it of course?
