The anime adaptation of the light novel series AntiMagic Academy “The 35th Test Platoon” is moving right along with the series getting closer to the end of the season. With that in mind, Kadokawa has put together a new character promo for that of Usagi Saionji, who is played by Rumi Ookubo in the series. It also serves to highlight the source material at the end with all the volumes available. Crunchyroll is streaming the series, which will be available worldwide excluding Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Portugal, German-speaking territories and French speaking territories.
Tomoyuki Kawamura is serving as the series director and is working on it based on the scripts from Kento Shimoyama. Kosuke Kawamura is on board to handle the character designs. Afilia Saga will be handling the opening song for the series while Kanako Ito is handling the ending song for it.
The cast includes Yoshimasa Hosoya as Takeru Kusanagi, Reina Ueda as Ouka Ohtori, Rumi Ookubo as Usagi Saionji, Ryoko Shiraishi as Ikaruga Suginami, Kanae Ito as Mari Nikaido, Iori Nomizu as Lapis Lazuli, Koji Yusa as Haunted, Natsumi Yamada as Nagaru Hoshijiro, Shinichiro Miki as Sougetsu Ohtori and Chika Anzai as Kiseki Kusanagi.
The series is based on the light novels from Touki Yanagimi. The series gets a translation of AntiMagic Academy “The 35th Test Platoon” and it’s been running since the spring of 2012 with eleven volumes out so far. The novels have a pretty good artist on them as well with Kippu, whose been involved in the illustrations for the No-Rin series as well that got an adaptation previously. A manga adaptation began back in late 2012 as well which is fairly standard practice for a lot of light novels these days.
Plot concept: The story is set in the world the people with magical powers on the edge of ruin. The top of the military power has moved from swords to magic, then to guns now. AntiMagic Academy was founded to train inquisitors to crack down on the remaining threat of the magical powers. The protagonist Takeru Kusanagi is a student of the academy and belongs to the 35th test platoon, a scratch team of poor students. While having no talent for guns, he has studied to be an inquisitor with his only merit, kenjyutsu (swordsmanship). One day, Ouka Outori, a super elite student who has the license to witch-hunt, joins his platoon. She is nicknamed as “Calamity,” since she actually shot a criminal to death in the past. As the leader of the platoon, Takeru starts working with her on a mission to retrieve Magical Heritage.
