‘Niea_7’ Blu-ray Anime Box Set Cover Art Revealed

2 min read

Niea 7Japanese distributor NBC Universal recently revealed that they will be giving the Niea_7 anime series a new lease on life there with a first time Blu-ray box coming out for it. Scheduled for a December 2nd, 2015 bow, the set has minimal details at the moment with it just containing the full twelve episode run of the series in its original Japanese language track. It’s set to be priced at 18,000 yen, which makes it a steal in comparison to a lot of other box sets that come out of Japan. They’ve now released the box set artwork for it with the full packaging design to come later.

The series originally aired in the spring of 2000 and was picked up and released in 2001 from Pioneer Entertainment with an English language adaptation done for it. The series was directed by Tomokazu Tokoro and Takuya Sato with Sato also doing the script, storyboards and serving as the animation director. A lot of the folks that worked on Serial Experiments Lain worked on this and it was noteworthy at the time for the character designs by Yoshitoshi ABe.

The home video license for this series has since lapsed and the show is out of print.

Plot concept: In the 21st century, aliens have arrived on Earth and live among humans. In sleepy Enohana, the dirt-poor student Chigasaki Mayuko finds herself living together with NieA, a low-caste (“Under Seven”) alien. While Mayuko struggles diligently to make ends meet, NieA seems to be totally unconcerned with the consequences of her actions. As the odd couple throws off the expected sparks, the wrecked alien mothership looms in the background…
