After scuttling a plan for a spinoff of Agents of SHIELD earlier this year to focus more on a second season of Agent Carter and the third season of Agents of SHIELD, it now looks like ABC is feeling a lot more comfortable with the idea.
But don’t call it a spinoff.
The network is now putting to order a pilot for Marvel’s Most Wanted, which will focus on the characters of Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter. Morse is a long established character in the comics that goes by the name of Mockingbird, though her familiar older costume has been changed out for a more traditional SHIELD oriented suit for the TV series. The plan is to basically bring back everyone that was involved before in the planned pilot for the spinoff an set them to task here. That means it’ll have Jeffrey Bell as an exec producer who is going to co-write it with Paul Zbyszewski and they’ll both serve as showrunners and executive producers on it.
With it being focused on these two, who have managed to steal a lot of scenes in the Agents of SHIELD series that could be getting more crowded this season, getting them onto their own drama/action piece might work well depending on the area it explores within the greater Marvel Universe.
The pilot is expected to be produced during the early part of the traditional period in early 2016 with a look towards the fall with it if it works.
I look forward to seeing this, but I still think that it’s too soon to spin them off.
