‘Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust’ Anime Release Will Be English Only

3 min read

Vampire Hunter D BloodlustWhile talking about the trailer that they released for Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Discotek Media has revealed that their release will have the English language track only:

Discotek Media The Blu Ray and DVD are English language only. The licensor will not allow the Japanese language to be released anywhere but Japan. We were told it was due to the Japanese version being a dub and the way the dub was produced. We would include it if allowed but cannot.

While this is disappointing, it’s also not a surprise. When the film was first released by Urban Vision back in 2002, it was English language only as well – because it was produced for the English language market by the company. The film did receive a Japanese language dub, which we heard different things about at the time as to how “accurate” it was and which script was worked off of and so forth. But for those that prefer “original” language, this film was designed with the English language side in mind first and foremost.

The company picked up the rights to the 200o feature anime film back in February and they’re going to bring it out later this year, if all goes as planned, with separate DVD and Blu-ray releases in the works. They’re currently looking at an early September 2015 release on the two formats and have now launched a new trailer for it through their social media.

The film was animated by Madhouse and was directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri based on the script by JAck Fletcher, who also served as the ADR director for the English language version. The work is based on the sprawling novel series by Hideyuki Kikuchi and Yoshitaka Amano. It was previously released by Urban Vision in North America.

Plot concept: The story revolves around D, the infamous “dunpeal” (born of a vampire father and a human mother) outcast and renowned vampire hunter. His prowess at hunting the creatures of the night allowing his acceptance among humans, he is called upon to locate Charlotte Elbourne, the lovely daughter of an affluent family who has been mysteriously kidnapped.

When the sun sets, the hunt goes on! Charlotte`s father offers a rich bounty, be she dead or alive, a task D willingly accepts, even with notorious Markus brothers and their gang of bounty hunters seeking the prize as well. Amidst the chase and unknown to all lurks a sinister evil which has been secretly manipulating their every move and has set a chilling trap that none will expect and few will survive. With the tables turned and the secrets revealed, the hunters could quickly become the hunted!
