Dark Horse Acquires Several New Manga Licenses

2 min read

Gigantomaxia FullDark Horse Comics hit up Anime Central this weekend and brought a few new manga announcements with them. As the publisher has been finishing up a few series recently of length, such as Gantz and Oh My Goddess, they made the nod earlier in the year that they intend to beef up their stables a bit with new titles. And the mix brought into play here is certainly intriguing.

First, they’ve picked up the rights to the Giganto Maxia series from Kentaro Miura of Berserk fame. This is a short run piece that was done during a hiatus from his main work.

On the properties with anime connections, they’ve picked up the Danganronpa: The Animation manga which was put together by Spike Chunsoft and Takashi Tsumi. They also have the RG Veda manga from CLAMP that was done ages ago. The plan is to work off of the five volume edition published in Japan recently with the first one set for a summer 2016 release doing 600 page omnibus format volumes. The series originally ran for 10 volumes before this new Japanese edition was put together.

They’ve also picked up the rights to I Am a Hero from Kengo Kanazawa, which is an important release to note if just in the fact that it’s the first time Dark Horse Comics has worked with a Shogakukan title. Almost everything typically goes through Viz Media for North American releases, though obviously Viz Media cannot release everything that’s published under that banner in Japan. This series will begin in spring 2016 and be done in the two-in-one omnibus format.
