With Marc Webb and everyone else mostly gone from the Spider-Man franchise as Marvel gets involved with Sony for the relaunch/integration into the MCU films, there’s been plenty of chatter about who would take up the lead actor role. Less talked about but just as important is who will director it and bring it into reality. With things having to move forward soon on it, particularly as casting is underway for the lead actor to appear in Captain America: Civil War, a shortlist of sorts has surfaced for the new Spider-Man film.
A lot of people had the right belief that Drew Goddard would helm it since he was slotted for the Sinister Six film and worked to bring Daredevil to the small screen before leaving that to handle Sinister Six. But a new report from Deadline has what they believe to be a solid list of who’s being looked at, though not complete. The list so far includes Jonathan Levine (50/50), Ted Melfi (St. Vincent), Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect), John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein (Vacation), and Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite).
The film will be centered on the high school years, and it looks like the plan is for a series of 3-4 films overall which each film covering a year in the character’s life during high school. .
Marvel has three films landing after Ant-Man and before Spider-Man, with the character potentially appearing in either Captain America: Civil War or Doctor Strange and then expected to have a role in the 2018 release of Avengers: Infinity War Part 1.
The untitled Spider-Man film is set for July 28th, 2017. No director or cast has been set yet.
