With Jessica Jones filming and moving right along, Marvel Studios is now turning its eye more on the upcoming Luke Cage series, which will have some crossover between the two as the Luke Cage character is appearing in the Jessica Jones series. We previously got the nod that Mike Colter was taking on the role and now the series writer/showrunner position has been filled for the project. Cheo Hodari Coker is boarding the project in that capacity, coming off his role as a co-executive producer on Almost Human. He’s set to write the first two episodes for the series that will arrive in the likely spring 2016 season. Coker’s definitely a solid choice for this property as he was a supervising producer on Southland, which can give this Hell’s Kitchen based series even more of an authentic feeling.

The character was originally created back in 1972 by Archie Goodwin and John Romita, Sr. for Luke Cage, Hero for Hire. He eventually teamed up a lot with Iron Fist, who is getting his own series after this one as well. The character has appeared in animated form in several different projects as well as videogames.
