With the film set to come out at the end of next year, things have to start coming together for Gareth Edwards’ standalone Star Wars film. We heard of several actresses testing for the lead female role recently and now it sounds like, according to Deadline, that Felicity Jones is in talks for the role. With the actress up for an Oscar for her work in The Theory of Everything, she has the potential for a lot of projects.

While Jones may be the one to get the role, there’s still nothing firm about any other actors, though Aaron Paul’s name continues to surface in these discussions. Disney has not talked about what the film is about, the time period it takes in or what characters it may involve.

Chris Weitz was recently brought on to handle writing the film after Gary Whitta left. Weitz has a slew of credits to his name, some that will delight such as About a Boy, and others that will make you cringe such as the second Twilight Film or The Golden Compass. His credits are fairly diverse though overall and it’s easy to see Disney wanting to keep him as they look to be pretty pleased with his take on the live action Cinderella film that’s landing this year.

The film is scheduled for a December 16th, 2016 release date.
