Yurikuma Arashi | Episode 1 | TFP ReviewYuri Kuma Arashi Crunchyroll Header

Jun Kuga: Yuri is best when it is subtle and softly presented.

Yurikuma is like getting hit in the face with a giant cricket bat made of lesbians.

It’s definitely an attractive show, but the substance… it seems a little lacking.

I’ll probably give it a few more episodes, but it’ll need to improve a lot to continue my hoop-jumping to watch it.

Momoka Kibi: I’m fine with the bluntness of the Yuri, but I’m also hoping it will be more involved that just random service scenes between our MC & the hungry hungry Bears. Like they’ll develop an actual relationship to go along with the service. Also that the symbolism won’t over take everything.

Or to put it another way, I have no issue with a show saying “Yes these two characters want to make out”, but it will work better if their wanting to make out involves more than just being randomly horny. That being said, I’m not really sure how you balance the “love” aspect & the “sex” aspect. As I’ve never been in a relationship.

Yamada2: Okay episode. Just ok. Nothing more.

The last 10 or so minutes made no sense at all. It was full blown nonsense. The abstract nature of the visuals didn’t help at all.

They’ve managed to explain the situation though. Bears kill people, people built wall, two bears entered disguised as humans and killed a girl, girl’s lesbian partner is mad and wants revenge.

The green bear girl was kinda kawaii. The cutest of the cast. The rest don’t look all that good.

Gildor: OK, two WTF shows at the same time. The other being Earth Defense Club. Two ends of the same spectrum (sort of). While EDC seems more light-hearted and apparently just wants silly comedy, this one appears more serious, despite the cutesy art style. I’ll have to watch a few more episodes, because I can’t get the feel of the show off this one episode. If anything, it gave off a Madoka Magica vibe to me, but we’ll have to see if it heads down that dark passageway.

EmperorBrandon: It’s fairly intriguing so far. Though making more sense of it will take time, given this is Ikuhara.

The use of onomatopoeia was actually the most amusing part of it for me.

Library-chan: Wow, that was a slap in the face full of hot yuri love. From the OP, it looks like the three of them will become friends/lovers, but now it doesn’t seem that way. I knew Sumika was screwed when Kureha said “I’ll protect you!” I wonder, if they did indeed eat Sumika, how will Kureha be friends will her lover’s killers? It’s Ikuhara, so there’s other meaning(s) to this as well. It is Ikuhara, so I will watch all of it.

And oh yeah, the two girls licking Kureha’s lilly is the best symbolic description of cunnilingus I’ve ever seen. Yuri…approved!

Buckeye: That was just totally weird, but then again this is from the same guy who did Utena, and Ikuhara’s presence is definitely felt with the background style, the spiral staircase (minus the Zettai Unmei Mokushiroku), and the overabundance of visual metaphors. Anyway, a lot just doesn’t make sense and the only thing I get is that Kureha is out to hunt bears with her gun, especially the one who ate Sumika, while Ginko and Lulu are transfer students who are actually bears themselves. Anyway, it’s an intriguing story to say the least, but one with an awful lot of WTF in it.

zaldar: If it was any other director I would be dropping this right now as it looks like simply a fan service wtf show. This is the guy who did Utena though…but then he also did penguin drum which didn’t seem to have any kind of point. I don’t know …

GingaDaiuchuu: Haha, that sure was Ikuhara. Don’t know if I can take much more, but you can always count on him to do something different than anyone else would ever think of.

kijakusai: The ‘kuma arashi’ part in the title is probably a reference to the novel Kuma Arashi (The Bear Storm) by Yoshimura Akira, which is about the Sankebetsu brown bear incident.

There is a manga about the incident, too.
