Durarara!!x2 | Episode 1Durarara X2 Header

Buckeye: The second season starts off nicely here seeing how some things remain the same in Ikebukuro. Emilia is introduced as someone who has been operating on Celty and gives her a big reward for her troubles. And then the chase is on with a huge reward given to whoever captures Celty. The music is great as usual, and this episode does a nice job in getting back to the swing of things. As for what shows Walker and Erika are talking about, they are Irregular at Magic High School, Index, Railgun, SAO, and Black Bullet.

GingaDaiuchuu: Nice to have Durarara!! back after so long. Looks like nothing has changed, as expected, which is certainly good. Looks like there are loads of new characters to explore, and with three new cours, it should get pretty exciting. Already enjoying just being with these characters again.

EmperorBrandon: Izaya’s sisters are such a riot. Only way to stop Mairu’s frenzy of excitement over the news is pepper spray. Looks like there’s going to be more quirkiness to come of them in the next episode too. Looking forward to finding out more about them.

And Celty is still so danged sexy, and adorably in love on top of it all. Certainly is going to have a rather unusual mother-in-law relationship…

Gildor: And it looks like it’s off to a good start. Good to see most of the old gang back with a few new faces. There is always the worry whether they can match the quality of the first season, but I am definitely in it for the long haul unless it unexpectedly falls apart completely.

Mitch H.: Man, I could just watch hours of Celty getting jerked around by her crazed would-be in-laws and chased by a succession of TV remote units, macho motorcycle cops, and Bosozoku.

I forget, were the otaku Dollars gang members such big light novel freaks in the first season? I mean, they were geeking out over a Holo standup, but that was after the anime… This time they were explicitly drooling over a pile of novels and everything name-checked were currently running series, several of which hadn’t seen adaptations yet as of the “six months later” timeframe.

EmperorBrandon: They were all titles of the Dengeki Bunko brand, same as the Durarara novel series. It’s a bit of cross promotion.

Sly05: Easily the series I’ve been looking forward to the most this season. It’s great to be back in Ikebukuro.

The OP and ED are both done very much in the same style of those of the first series. I’m not sure I think the songs are quite as catchy, but I like the direction and animation.

Celty is as adorable as ever and Shinra’s dad got a busty young wife some how. She obviously has more than a few screws loose herself to be with that guy. I did get a laugh out of Celty’s reaction to her hugging Shinra.

I’m looking forward to watching the rest.

Rhys2753: What was the anime playing over the arcade? I don’t think it was Baccano! like it usually was in ssn 1.

GingaDaiuchuu: I think you’re talking about Samurai Flamenco?

By the way, I totally forgot that this was by a different studio. I assume this studio was founded by Brains Base staff?

EmperorBrandon: I assume the same. The representative listed on their official site is Yumi Satou, who worked as an animation producer on many Brains Base titles.

kijakusai: In Ikebukuro, there was a large black market. Mobsters and delinquents called the area ‘Bukuro’ in a rough and coarse slang term. Ikebukuro cannot remove its roughness and the feel of yami’ichi (black market) after all. In a sense, I wouldn’t be surprised if Ikebukuro is depicted as a rough and tough area in fiction. Some country cousins, including some writers and artists, may regard its roughness as cool, though.

EmperorBrandon: I’m always going to think of Mami from Super Gals! when I see that term.
