2 min read

AllegiantThough we’ve had a teaser that was aimed at fans previously, the first trailer for Insurgent is set to launch this week and it appears that Lionsgate has a lot of faith in director Robert Schwentke. Schwentke came in to handle this after Neil Burger directed Divergent, which did $288 million worldwide and had many believing that no sequels would come. Lionsgate is looking to maximize the franchise for the long haul though and scheduled Insurgent and turning the third and final book, Allegiant, into a two film production. Now that things are wrapping up for Insurgent, Lionsgate has confirmed that Schwentke will be back for the first Allegiant installment and likely the second as well.

The first installment of Allegiant was already plotted for a March 18th, 2016 date and the fourth installment will land on March 24th, 2017.

“Veronica Roth brings her captivating story to a masterful conclusion in Allegiant, a rich, action-packed book with material that is ideally suited to two strong and fulfilling movies,” said Friedman and Wachsberger back when the two part film was announced. “The storytelling arc and world of the characters lend themselves perfectly to two films, a storytelling strategy that has worked very well for us on the two Twilight Breaking Dawn films and about which we’re tremendously enthusiastic for the two upcoming Mockingjay films of The Hunger Games franchise.” Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher of Red Wagon Entertainment are producing the series.

The film series stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, Kate Winslet, Naomi Watts, Octavia Spencer, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller and Zoe Kravitz. Insurgent is set to debut on March 20th, 2015.
