As we inch closer to the January launch season on Syfy with some new series, one of them has a new series poster out. 12 Monkeys is one that has fans wary of trying to make something new out of a really loved cult film, but the trailers have started to win people over a bit.

“We were all very, very big fans of the original film and had a deep love and respect for that material, so we didn’t want to just redo what the movie does,” executive producer Natalie Chaidez told EW, which debuted the poster. “So, while the series shares a lot of the same overall themes of the movie, it is in fact a reimagining and we changed the rules.”

With a couple of trailers for it already, 12 Monkeys has a planned January 2015 debut date alongside the second season of Helix. The production is being done by the company behind the original film, Altas Entertainment, along with Universal Cable Productions. The show has set Natalie Chaidez as the showrunner along with being an executive producer while Charles Rowen and Richard Suckle will also serve as executive producers. Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett wrote the pilot and will be working as co-executive producers alongside Chaidez while Jeffrey Reiner worked as the director for the pilot and garners an EP credit as well.

12 Monkeys will star Aaron Stanford (Nikita, X-Men: The Last Stand, X2), Amanda Schull (Suits, Pretty Little Liars), Noah Bean (Nikita, Damages) and Kirk Acevedo.

Plot concept: The series follows the journey of a time traveler (Stanford) from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race.
