I Can’t Understand What My Husband Is Saying Episode 9
A look at a first date!

What They Say:
Kaoru is an OL you can find anywhere, serious and works diligently, but her husband is a super otaku and more-or-less a NEET. She is caught up in one of her husband’s whims one day or the subject of his concerns another, but the two are so close that it’s embarrassing to even watch them!

With ore of a focus on Kaoru and Hajime recently rather than family, we get Mayotama visiting wanting to know about the couple’s first date together. He’s going to use it in his manga and wants to know, which has its own cute moment with what it means. Going back to when they first started dating is interesting as we get to see a different looking Kaoru as a brunette and not all that interested in Hajime. Her family life comes into focus a little more when she tells her father about the date and we see how far he goes to protect her. The two have an almost kind of bland date in a way where there’s really no expectations between them, but it’s the kind of date that can work right as they both spend hours and hours walking and talking. The more you talk to someone, the more you get to really know them, and you can see how Kaoru starts to see the real him and begins to like him more, which makes it easy to accept his request for a second date that eventually lead to marriage.

In Summary:
A laid back episode, we get to see how the two eased into dating while not exactly being thrilled in a sense. It comes across from both parties, though Hajime seems to be a lot more enthused when not around others about it. There’s a good look at their pre-couple personalities a bit with how they handle themselves and some of the things that changed over time, which really leaves you wanting to see more of how that happened – especially her becoming blonde. Moving from dating to being a couple is an interesting time period that most shows never explore, but then again most anime shows never really go on a true first date free from interference by others that turns into something meaningful.
