King Records is handling the home video distribution for Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor – Exodus and based on the first round of solicitation, it looks like we’re going to have a split season show. Planned for 26 episodes, we’ve got the first 13 episodes solicited so far with the first volume landing on February 4th, 2015 – just a few weeks after broadcast which is pretty rare. The show is set for six volumes for this half of the season and it’s getting a varied pricing release, one where there are boxes associated with the first volume for each format. So far, the only main extras listed with the release are the clean opening and closing sequences.

  • – v1 BD: 8800 yen
  • – v2 to v5 BDs: 7800 yen
  • – v6 BD: 8800 yen
  • – v1 DVD: 7800 yen
  • – v2 to v5 DVDs: 6800 yen
  • – v6 DVD: 7800 yen

The series stars Makoto Ishii as Kazuki Makabe, Kohei Kiyasu as Soshi Minashiro, Marika Matsumoto as Maya Tomi, Ryotaro Okiayu as Walter Bargest, Yuichi Nakamura as Dustin Morgan, Aki Unone as Keith Walter, Megumi Han as Aishuwaria Fein and Masakazu Morita as Billy Morgan.

The planned 26 episode series from Xebec zwei builds upon the events of the 2010 movie, which in turn worked off of the original 2004 TV series which makes this a pretty welcome tenth anniversary project for the studio. Taking place two and a half years after the film, we get the characters aging up a bit and definitely in different places as well as a fairly serious mood and atmosphere about it.

Original concept: Tatsumiyajima is the central island in the middle of a small cluster of islands, in a sleepy backwater of the Japanese isles. Not much happens there, and the island’s young people go to school knowing that their lives are likely to remain peaceful and undisturbed. Or so they have been taught… but the truth is different. The fate of mankind is on the line, and Tatsumiyajima is the last line of defense against a hostile and incomprehensible enemy. At the center of it all, fighting for Humanity’s continued existence, is the giant robot Fafner, the dragon that guards this final treasure of mankind.
