Cinedigm Inks Vimeo Distribution Deal

2 min read

cinedigmThe potential for some interesting anime titles to surface through legal streaming has increased as Cinedigm has inked a deal with Vimeo to bring a lot of their titles to the service. Not surprisingly, a lot of what they’re bringing to the Vimeo On Demand service involves some more well known titles, such as My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks as well as others that will be released exclusively and non-exclusively on Vimeo On Demand over the next year and participate in joint marketing efforts to promote the titles.

“As the largest independent distributor of content in the United States, Cinedigm controls an impressive catalog of over 52,000 films and television series from which we’ll curate titles for our fast growing, passionate audiences,” said Sam Toles, VP of Content Acquisitions and Business Development, Vimeo. “We are particularly excited about utilizing our embeddable player with transaction support and powerful off-site distribution network to connect the passionate ‘Brony’ community directly with ‘Rainbow Rocks.'”

“We are excited to expand our content availability by offering the millions of Vimeo viewers high quality programming including MY LITTLE PONY Equestria Girls and other branded content,” Yolanda Macias, Cinedigm’s EVP Acquisitions, Forecast, Planning & Digital Sales.

While the focus on the Brony market is obvious and easy, the potential is there for the anime fans to make out as well over time. Cinedigm, though their New Video Group unit, has released a number of shows such as Champion Joe, the recently acquired Slam Dunk and Mononoke. They also do distribution for GKIDS, which means we might see Welcome to the Space Show and Patema Inverted on there as well in the future.
