Originally planned for its debut to hit during next week’s Agents of SHIELD episode, a leak of the international trailer has Marvel Studios releasing the full trailer now instead. The piece is one that shows off the variety of locales that we’ll be seeing, some nice touches on both Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch and a number of very enticing scenes involving Ultron himself. There’s not a lot of dialogue to it, instead going for the action and visuals such as the Hulkbuster armor and the array of action and emotional moments, but it has a curious tone to it overall.
In a way, it certainly differentiates itself from the last two trailers we’ve seen from Marvel. The first Captain America: The Winter Soldier trailer was a strong one that had a lot of hooks right off the bat while feeling different. Guardians of the Galaxy was a complete hook for many people with its nods to classic 70’s and 80’s riffs that played up the humor. Here, with some disturbing altered voice narration from James Spader as Ultron – combined with an unusual music choice – it’s one that requires a few viewings before you can really settle into the tone of it and grasp at the kind of oppressive end of days feeling to what’s going to go into it.
Directed by Joss Whedon, the is set to land on May 1st, 2015 and stars Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and James Spader.
Plot concept: When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.
