Adam McKay Delving Deeper With Marvel Studios

When things fell through earlier this summer with Edgar Wright working on Ant-Man, Marvel Studios had a lot of options it looked at for a director. One of them was Adam McKay, someone that had talks with previously about projects but didn’t get too far with them. While McKay didn’t come on board to direct, instead having Peyton Reed handling the chores for that film, he was brought on to do some script rewriting and polishing to get things ready for production. Time working with Marvel there has had him become a bit more involved with the studio and their plans and it seems like they may be drawing him in to work on something else as well:

While listing his projects, the filmmaker said, “I’m starting to get into the early stages with Marvel.” He went on, but the subject came back around to Marvel. “I just did a big rewrite on Ant-Man with Paul Rudd and had such a great time working with them that we’re kicking around ideas. But yeah, maybe I would take on one of the characters so we haven’t locked in anything, but discussions are definitely going on.”

McKay may not be a well known name to many, but he has some sold comedy and action material under his belt that would make him an interesting asset to Marvel Studios in their Phase 3 films. While he worked for a number of years in the late 90’s on Saturday Night Live, he went on to write and direct Anchorman (and its sequel) while also doing films like Talladega nights and Step Brothers. He also wrote and directed The Other Guys, which had some solid action mtaerial to it. He’s largely worked as a producer in the last few years outside of directing Anchorman 2. He currently doesn’t have any formal projects in the works outside of producing the undated film Daddy’s Home.
