FUNimation Sets ‘.hack’ Anime Releases

Hack SignOne of FUNimation’s pickups from the old Bandai Entertainment catalog last year was the .hack franchise, which encompasses a good bit of material. They announced at the New York Comic Con today their plans for release for the various properties next year, as well as noting that they’ll be debuting episodes of it in November at the Nekocon convention in Virginia. All releases will be on DVD and bilingual, except for the G.U. Trilogy which was never dubbed to begin with. Check out the titles with their release dates and premises below!

.hack//SIGN – February 24th, 2015
.hack was more than just an anime. It’s was a cultural phenomenon that transformed the way an entire generation looked at the world around them. This wildly-successful franchise offered us all the chance to escape. Thanks to .hack, we no longer had to be normal. We could delve into The World in search of adventure. We could run dungeons, collect treasure, and lose ourselves in virtual labyrinths. Each new installment was a melding of future and past where the rules of reality no longer applied. .hack was our ticket to the wired world, and we couldn’t wait to logon.

Tsukasa awakens inside The World, an immense online RPG filled with monsters, magic, and mayhem. When he discovers he’s unable to log out of this mysterious game, he joins forces with a colorful group of characters and begins a desperate quest to find his way back to real life.

Twins Rena and Shugo endured a painful separation after their parents’ divorce. When they both win avatars in a contest, they reunite in The World as Black Rose and Kite. After a frightening encounter leaves Rena in a coma, Shugo must unlock the secrets of the Twilight Bracelet and rescue his sister before it’s too late!

.hack//Roots – May 19th, 2015
In the newest version of the massive online RPG know as “The World,” Haseo and his guild mates search for a legendary item called the Key of the Twilight—but they’re not the only ones looking for it. When a rival guild faces off against Haseo and his teammates, the conflict has deep repercussions both inside and outside the game, and threatens to leave the players forever changed.

.hack//G.U. Trilogy  – June 30th, 2015
Join Haseo on his quest to track down Tri-Edge, the devious PK responsible for leaving one of his closest friends in a coma. Along the way he meets Atolli, a gentle girl who takes an interest in him despite his chilly demeanor. Together, Haseo and Atolli will attempt to survive long enough to decipher the riddle of the entities known as AIDAs – and save their fellow gamers from permanent sleep!
