We’ve been doing the anime coverage and writing gig since 1998, back when we originally created AnimeOnDVD.com. Over the years, the Internet landscape has changed and the way we operated before is difficult as we were largely supported by affiliate income that came from readers buying through retailers. But with affiliate programs largely gone these days, it’s all down to advertising. But we want to be supported directly by our readers and to find some fun rewards and things to do to build a stronger and more engaged community. We’ve got a few ideas, we want more, but mostly we want to keep bringing you great coverage, lots of news and other information for years to come.
If you have suggestions for rewards that you’d like to see, we’re all ears for that as well. We’ve got a few things up on there already and kicking around some other ideas as well.
Having just hit our sixteen year anniversary for doing this kind of work, we’re in it for the long haul. I love covering anime, manga, comics, movies and more. I want to do more of it as well but we’re needing to grow a bit and we’re looking to the readership for the support to do it. We’re certainly not selling out to anyone (as useful as that experience was, especially in the 2008 marketcrash!) but we want to start taking things to the next level and bring everyone with us.
The “old ways” of doing things have certainly not been working for awhile and Patreon looks to be one of the better ways for what we do to help support us and move to the next level. We hope you’ll help and be a part of the community.
