It looks like we might be knowing the next home video release from the Studio Ghibli library in North America as Kiki’s Delivery Service has now seen a July 22nd, 2014 Target advertisement listing on Blu-ray. As is the case with what Disney does with their back catalog, they release one or two titles alongside a new feature to try and drum up back catalog interest. And with it likely that we’re going to see The Wind Rises released this summer, Kiki’s Delivery Service makes a good slot. No pricing or details are provided but it’s likely to mirror previous releases that used the Japanese releases as the basis.

Plot concept: Rarely does a film touch so many hearts or reach such artistic heights as the highly acclaimed KIKI’S DELIVERY SERIVCE, the magical adventure of an enterprising young girl who must follow tradition to become a full-fledged witch. Venturing out with only her chatty black cat Jiji, KiKi flies off for the adventure of a lifetime. Landing in a far-off city, she sets up a high-flying delivery service. Here begins a wonderful experience of independence and responsibility as she finds her place in the world. The breathtaking animation of the legendary Hayao Miyazaki and the star voice talents of Kirsten Dunst (KiKi), Phil Hartman (Jiji), Matthew Lawrence (Tombo), and more make KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE soar with an energy, excitement, and the kind of imagination that entertains again and again!

  1. Interesting. I wonder if any other Ghibli films will debut alongside it on BD too?
