With Madoka Magica being one of the bigger properties of the last few years for a whole host of reasons around the world, it’s no surprise that when Aniplex USA brings over the first two movies that they’ll go all out. Set for release on July 15th, 2014, the two movies will be presented in DVD/BD form in a collector’s edition as well as two separate DVD only releases. The DVD/BD combo set goes all out with what it has in terms of packaging and presentation while the DVD releases mirror the technical side but goes for a more standard approach. Plot concept: Originally airing in Japan in the beginning of 2011, Puella Magi Madoka Magica is an original story developed into TV series by Gen Urobuchi (Fate/Zero and Psycho Pass) of Nitroplus, directed by Akiyuki Shimbou (Goodbye Zetsubo Sensei, Bakemonogatari, Arakawa under the Bridge) and produced by Aniplex’s Atsuhiro Iwakami (the Garden of sinners, Bakemonogatari, Oreimo, and Fate/Zero). Puella Magi Madoka Magica follows the story of a 14-year-old girl named Madoka Kaname. Madoka is offered the opportunity of gaining magical powers if she agrees to make a contract with a strange little being named Kyubey. Kyubey will also grant Madoka one wish, but in exchange she shall risk her life by accepting the responsibilities of fighting witches. Little does Madoka know what the real risks of making a contract has in-store for her.
