As events wind down from Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the season finale of Agents of SHIELD, Marvel gets to focus big time on their next property with Guardians of the Galaxy. We’re hearing that the second full length trailer is expected to land on Monday of next week and that we’ll be seeing some new footage out of it. But ahead of that, a new poster has arrived that plays up the classic space opera goodness that the film increasingly looks like it’s going to embody, which further cements some of the original Star Wars comments many people make about it.

Set for release on August 1st, 2014 directed by James Gunn, the feature brings together Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Dave Batista, Vin Diesel, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Benicio del Toro, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close and Gregg Henry.

Plot concept: An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.
