Mushishi: The Next Chapter Episode 01

GingaDaiuchuu: As if no time has passed in the last eight years. A fitting sensation for this world of mushi. Kudos to Aniplex to making sure nothing was changed when they took over, especially after so long.

I was prepared for the opening to not hold a candle to the Sore Feet Song, but they clearly went for the same vibe, and I already do like this one a lot. I doubt it will ever replace the original in my mind, but I certainly have no complaints.

After the OVA I thought we might get more repeat appearances in this season than the first, but I wasn’t expecting to start it off with the adult Isaza that Ginko mentioned at the end of the finale to the first season. Awesome. Sinterniklaas could certainly reprise that role, although I suppose Bang Zoom! is the one LA studio that never uses him, either. Weird.

Sly05: Wow, it has really been a long time. I don’t have much to add to that, but I’m happy Mushishi is back. They really did do a great job of recapturing the style of the first series.

EyeOfPain: Great chapter to re-introduce the series. And it does help that almost all the chapters can be re-arranged without having any significant impact on the story.

Like Ginga said, it feels like the same show, minus the “Sore Feet Song.” Almost like slipping on a pair of well-worn shows that are more comfortable than anything new you could find on the shelves.

I’d forgotten Isaza was a recurring character. There should be a couple others later on who will be more obvious.

stardf29: Yeah, this was a really nice episode. Not that I expected any less from Mushishi.

Though I really should get back to the first season if there are recurring characters from there…

bctaris: It’s been so long for me I can only remember a couple (the woman and the old lady, and the doctor, from the OVA, for instance). But I hardly thinks it makes too much of a difference. People may carry over, but “plots” do not.

But, anyway, like others, very nice to have this back, like an old friend. And, for me, an antidote to the normal anime landscape.
