Pupa Episode 11
Pupa Episode 11
Can the siblings survive with what they’ve become?

What They Say:
The “life-and-death sibling” story follows Utsutsu and Yume Hasegawa, a boy and his little sister who find themselves all alone. One day, Yume sees a mysterious red butterfly and her body undergoes a strange metamorphosis—into a creature that eats humans. Utsutsu struggles to find a way to restore his sister.

With one of the main themes of the series being the way the siblings protect each other, it’s been interesting to see how each of them have really taken on that role, though there are different issues for them. With Yume having gone a bit nuts in the previous episode, and seeing the chaos unleashed in the surgery room and the location in general, it’s a bloody fine mess that exists when the pair are actually reunited. It’s almost comical in how Yume talks about what she’s done in such a calm way, and how he just looks on and does what he can to support her. It’s family at its finest, in a twisted kind of way.

The series has had an odd sense of structure about it, but with the pair free of those that were trying to control them, they’re now trying to get back to something resembling a normal life. Which is not easy when your sister has to regularly eat you in order to get nourishment. Utsutsu is kind of weird about it as well since he really likes the look she gets when she finishes feeding, since there’s some obviously creepy connotations about it that you can take to the bank. But kept at its most simple, we get a nice nod towards the way that he’s all about doing whatever he can to protect her, no matter the creepy factor of it all.

In Summary:
With one more episode to go, it’ll be interesting to see what they intend to do with it in order to bring some closure while likely still leaving it open for a bit more. The focus here on the siblings together is pretty nicely done and it hits some of the basic themes of the show well while providing plenty of creepy factor material in a number of directions. The series is not one for the timid in a way, especially as you see a number of people warning away about listening with headphones on, and we can certainly agree with that as it’s definitely a mood setter.
