The popularity of Kenichi – The Mightiest Disciple continues to go well in Japan as it seems like each new compiled volume of the manga is generating a pair of OVA episodes that get bundled in a special edition. We saw that with the 54th volume that was released in November of last year and now we have another two episodes due out on February 18th, 2014 with the 55th volume of the manga by Syun Matsuena. To get peopled more jazzed for it, the Club Sunday TV YouTube channel has brought out a new ten minute preview of it as animated by Brain’s Base, which gave us three releases over the course of 2012 that encompassed the Ragnarok arc of the manga in addition to the 2013 double episode bundle. The two new episodes, which brings the total up to nine, are titled The God of Destruction Under Guard and Wanting a Pseudonym at 18 Years Old.

The TV series was released by FUNimation in North America and was a surprise hit for the company that exceeded expectations with the first collection, causing them to fast-track the acquisition and release of the second season. Both seasons are currently available only on DVD.
Series concept: Kenichi’s a total wimp. He’s always getting picked on and doesn’t have a lot of friends to stick up for him. The guy needs motivation if he hopes to graduate in one piece. Well, Miu’s the perfect motivation. She’s hot, she accepts him, and she just so happens to live at a dojo with six martial arts masters.
You could say fate has led Kenichi to their door, or you could say he was just following the hottie. Either way, he’s about to get whipped into serious shape. If he can survive some hard-core training, he might survive another day at school. He might even score with Miu. Yeah, you could call Kenichi a wimp, but let’s go with underdog instead.
