Kyousougiga Episode #09

Life, the universe, and everything are no match for a bored god.

What They Say:
Episode #09:  “Let’s All Think About What We Can Do!”

Almost to the grand finale folks!

Koto punches all sorts of holes in the Chief Priests logic about the existence of the 13th world.  If god didn’t want the 13th plane to exists, then it simply wouldn’t have been able to exist for as long as it has, right?  It’s a sound argument.  Who’s to say what the creator of the rules intended?

Early in this episode I was scared that I had discovered the point where Kyousougiga ran out of money.  Up until now I’ve felt this series has done an amazing, lovely job with the framing and animation, and then we get a monolog set against an unchanging scene that stretches on for a good five minutes.  It’s a necessary monolog, one explaining Inari/Myoue/Dad’s role in the world. the role of the shrine, and all that came before.  I feel like if maybe the animation team had more time, or money, they could’ve animated some flashbacks of what Inari is telling little Koto and it would have made for a far more interesting scene.

Clearly that budget was spared for the remainder of the episode.  Despite the explanation of what had come way before, it didn’t quite explain what was about to happen next.

“I will return bringing the beginning and the end.”

When Inari, with all the powers of god, decided to hand off his powers to others he gave his daughter by natural means all his powers of destruction.  To Yakushimaru, he gave his powers of creation.  While Koto declares she wants to save the world, and Yakushimaru declares he wants to die, that goes directly against Dad’s plan.  The solution?  For Dad to stab his daughter with his sword and turn her into a pure walking instrument of destruction.  As for Yakushimaru, he never wanted to be Myoue, and let’s his father know it as the whole city falls to destruction around them.

It’s has all the hallmarks of a grand apocalypse.  The ground opening up and swallowing parts of the city, lightning raining down from the sky, objects and people alike crumbling into nothingness.  It’s not just there world either.  The other worlds are affected as well, including the earth that Koto was calling home.  As Yakushimaru sulks his brother and sister finally make him realize that they were never supposed to rule alongside him.  Myoue was supposed to rule over the city, and that they’ve only remained in order to do the job he was supposed to do.  With reality coming apart at the scenes, they too fall away with the crumbling world.  Well, it’s time for the training wheels to come off and for Myoue Jr. to stop moping around.  Cue the ballad.

Ballad?  Yeah, there’s an english language background song playing over the finale scenes in this episode as Myoue rushes off to find Koto and put things to right.  The reunion between the two is sweet, and once little Koto has been healed of her father’s manipulations wonders what she can do to save everything.  All she can do is destroy all she touches!  Myoue Jr. assures her that she is his beginning.  I can’t wait to see what happens in the final episode!

In Summary:
Kyousougiga is coming to a world ending, universe upending finale.  We say goodbye to some of the family and watch as everyone finally takes their place in the great scheme of things.  It’s great to watch Myoue Jr. move forward, and for Koto to realize that she can’t just let it end like this.  I also don’t think Dad is the villain he makes himself out to be, although his children do seem to be doing exactly what he wishes they would.  I don’t know how they’ll end the series in the final episode, but it’s sure to be amazing!
